Different messaging apps are integrated into phones manufactured by OEMs such as Samsung and OnePlus. All Android phones come with Google's default messages app, but retrieving deleted messages is not as easy as it is with Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy phones.
Messages can be archived by swipe gestures in the app. The conversation thread is archived when you accidentally swipe left or right in messages.
The following steps will help you find and archive important messages:
- On Android, open the Messages app.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner.
- Select Archived
- Simply long-tap the message you want to archive, then tap the up-arrow icon.

How to recover deleted text messages from a Samsung Galaxy phone
On Galaxy phones, the default One UI Messages app supports RCS and has a wide range of features. For 30 days, the Samsung Messages app stores deleted messages in the Recycle Bin. Once a message has been in the Recycle bin for a month, it is permanently deleted.
- Go to your Samsung phone's Messages app.
- Tap on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner and open the Recycle bin.
- Take a look at your deleted text messages. Tap and hold the message you wish to retrieve.
- Then select Restore at the bottom and check it in your main inbox.
