MANILA, Philippines - The total number of COVID-19 deaths in the country is approaching 61,000, the Department of Health (DOH) said Saturday.

According to the latest DOH tracker data, the total death toll is now 60,992, down from 60,944 on Friday after 48 new victims were reported.

The DOH also recorded 4,679 new infections, bringing the total number of cases to 3,824,758.

This is the third day in a row that the DOH has reported more than 4,500 daily infections: there were 4,533 cases on Thursday and 4,661 cases on Friday.

Of the total number of COVID-19 infections, 40,324 are active cases and 3,683,942 recovered.
